Sports Premium

Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

What is the 'Sports Premium'?

In April 2013, the Government announced new funding of £150 million for Physical Education (PE) and Sport – often referred to as a 'Sport Premium'. This funding is to be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and Sport provision.
When asked about the 'Sport Premium' at its launch, Lord Coe reflected: 'When I stood up in Singapore in 2005, I spoke of London's vision to connect young people with the inspirational power of the Games so they are inspired to choose sport. By focussing on primary schools, we have the opportunity to use sport and physical activity to shape the daily lives of young people. I know from my own experience what an impact teachers and their engagement can have on the lives of young people.' (Lord Coe)

Current Provision
We are proud of the current PE curriculum provision at our school and of the wealth of extra-curricular opportunities that we provide for our pupils. Sporting Clubs include; Football, Cricket, Tag Rugby, Gymnastics and Athletics.
Intra-school competitions also feature in our school sporting calendar, including Football, and District Sports as well as our annual Sports Days.

How will we be spending the 'Sport Premium' funding?
We will be using our 'Sport Premium' funding to improve:

  • PE provision (through staff Continued Professional Development opportunities)
  • Participation in inter-school competition
  • Promotion of Healthy lifestyles
  • Active play

Cross-country

Year 5 District Cross Country representing Hatfield and Onslow St Audrey’s

Three of our year 5s qualified for this years Welwyn and Hatfield District Cross Country event.

They teamed up with other local schools to represent Welwyn and Hatfield in the district event

They remained resilient and put all of their effort into their performance. They ran extremely well and completed the course, resulting in their team coming in first place.

Congratulations year 5!

Football

Our Boys' football team have been busy passing, dribbling and tackling their way through the league and Maynard Cup.

They led the team to victory on occasion and demonstrated their sportsmanship throughout. Unfortunately, they did not win the Maynard Cup but they did develop a passion for football and can't wait to try again next year.

Well done boys!

Dance

WE COME IN PEACE!

Year 4 pupils had the amazing opportunity to learn, rehearse and perform a dance based on the theme 'To infinity and beyond', as part of this years Welwyn and Hatfield Dance festival.

They performed a dance choreographed by Miss Hare to Eurovision hit, 'Spaceman' by Sam Ryder, on the Hawthorne Theatre stage.

They learnt all about what happens backstage and theatre etiquette when others are performing.

Well done to our Birchwood Aliens, you made us all very proud.

This Girl Can Campaign

Miss Hare recognised Mia's love for rugby and offered her the opportunity to attend a Women's Rugby match.

Mia was very lucky to attend the Women's Rugby Match, in support of the This Girl Can Campaign to show that women can be just as successful in sports, as men.

Mia had a great time, meeting all of the Saracen players and even got to hold the trophy.

Speed stacking

8 year 3 and 4 pupils went to Onslow St Audrey's School to take part in a speed stacking event.

They were extremely successful and achieved the following scores:

Boys Individual - Matthew 3rd

Girls Team - 3rd

Boys Team - 3rd

Mixed Teams - 1st

They returned to school full of pride, sporting their medals. A big well done to you all!
