Languages - Spanish

Languages Curriculum Document

Language Club is run every Tuesday after school with Mrs Bird. Children are given activities to practise their language skills in Spanish. In the Spring term, the children were able to learn about Dia de los Reyes Magos, Three Kings Day, Epiphany. Using music, song and dance the children were able to express themselves and enjoy singing in Spanish whilst making up their own dance routines. They created art work based upon Pablo Picasso's style of cubism. The children enjoyed researching their own recipes for their favorite Spanish foods. On Shrove Tuesday, we translated sentences to follow a recipe to make pancakes or 'panqueques'.

Each week, the children have access to Duolingo - a languages app, that is a free, fun way of developing their basic language skills in Spanish.

In the summer term, the children will continue to self-choose their areas of learning. They will have access to chrome books to research topics to study and we will continue looking at the different arts that are integral to learning about the cultures of all countries that speak Spanish.

These sessions are open to all key stage 2 children and will enhance their experience of learning languages as part of our school curriculum.
